Dr. Baskaran Thyagarajan and his group of researchers in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Wyoming have developed a targeted system of drug delivery that could revolutionize many forms of medical treatments and therapies. In this short video he explains how he is currently using the highly purified, heat-producing component in chili peppers called "capsaicin" to cause weight loss in mice by converting one type of fat into another which is metabolically more productive. Capsaicin is a popular over-the-counter weight loss supplement. Research conducted by the Baski Lab involves a pure, pharmaceutical grade of capsaicin of which the effectiveness is known and the dosage controlled, unlike many OTC products available.
